Madisar or Kosavam is draped by married women belonging to the Brahmin community. The first ever time a woman adorns a Madisar is on the day of her wedding. Nowadays, women drape it only on festive occasions.
To drape a Madisar one needs a saree of 9 yards length as opposed to the regular 6 yards. What is interesting is that, the Madisar is tied differently in households within different communities.
Madisar or the 9 yards can be bought in most saree shops in Chennai.
